Maïlhol 1.1 What is geothermal energy? Geothermal energy is all about tapping into and utilizing the Earth’s internal heat, which comes from two primary sources: the decay of radioactive elements and the residual heat left over from the planet’s formation billions of years ago. Heat is a form of energy associated with the movement of particles within matter. Heat can be transferred in three ways: conduction, convection, and radiation.
