For each seismic line in time, the instantaneous frequency section has been computed by analytic signal (Hilbert transform), and then depth converted. The distributions in depth of the instantaneous frequencies and P-wave velocities (Figures 7.12 to 7.14) have been used to predict the distribution of the Q-factor in depth, using equation (7.6) with the constant values for ΔV and f2 given by the VSP analysis carried out at well Est 433. The instantaneous frequency section and the Q-factor distribution for the line 07 EST10 are shown in Figure 7.18 (top). Figure 7.18 (bottom) also shows the Q-factor distributions for the lines IL405 and XL 217.
